Southern Sunset

The sky looked interesting these evening so I headed to the Folly marshes and creeks. This was the scene at Crosby's.

Misty Saturday morning

I do appreciate not having to get up early on the weekend, especially when it's dull and foggy, but there are rewards for making the effort. I was at one of my favorite plantations early this morning, taking advantage of the saturated colors and misty vistas. Here's a view across the Stono River.

Go Gamecocks - I suppose

I guess I will need to start paying attention to the Gamecocks this season since Matt will be at USC in the fall. Cosmo is counting down the days/hours/minutes until the season starts. I guess I really don't get it ..

James Island Connector

These are shots I've been meaning to take for awhile and I think about it every morning on the way to work, but its not convenient or very safe to attempt during the rush hour, so Sunday seemed a pretty good bet. It wasn't as clear as it sometimes is so the haze was a negative, but the high tide and bridge reflections were a plus.

The Rockville Regatta 2010

It was hot. I was just glad I wasn't out there on the water with the other thousands of boats. I think I prefer Rockville "out of season."

And now for something completely different ...

Still playing in the studio, but this time with smoke trails.

Chelsea and Madeline

Much of the final success of an image is dependent on the way it is processed after the fact. Yes, you have to have a decent shot to work with, but the mood, style, etc. of the final product can be vastly different depending on where you feel like taking it. The art of photography has evolved so much since the advent of digital capture and software manipulation. Magazine and photo journalism styles are very popular now. The current approach to producing senior pics is a classic example. More about that soon. In the meantime, here are two different renditions of one image of Chelsea and Madeline.

Madeline at almost 7 months

I photographed Madeline when she was barely a day old. Here she is getting ready to crawl. She submitted to about half an hour in the studio before she got very bored with it and refused to make any more "nice" faces
